Meet David Herbert
The Early Years: A Lifelong Love for Music
At the tender age of 8, David embarked on his music odyssey. He would visit a local shop in Ilford, Essex, which sold second-hand 7" ex-jukebox records with their centers missing. Every week, he would eagerly spend his pocket money to explore the treasures this store had to offer. These vintage records were brought home and played on the family stereo system, sparking a deep love for music. Both his Dad and Mum had small collections of records, which further fueled his fascination.
During the late '70s and early '80s, the music scene was evolving. Disco had taken the world by storm, punk and new wave were making waves, and hip-hop from the United States was injecting fresh energy. Electronic music was on the rise, and David was captivated by the sounds and effects generated by machines from legendary brands like Moog, Roland, and Korg. He even delved into programming machines to create intricate drum patterns.
A Journey through Electronic Music
David's interest in electronic music naturally led him to explore '80s funk and soul, paving the way for his immersion into the world of early Chicago House music. This musical journey played a crucial role in shaping the dance, acid house, and clubbing culture we all know today. His strong connection with the dancefloor and his profound knowledge of music opened doors to a long and successful career behind the turntables, spanning various eras and technologies, from vinyl to modern DVS systems.
David's Eclectic Tastes
While David's personal music preferences lean towards soul, R&B, funk, house, and garage, he acknowledges that these genres may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, as he's grown older, he's developed a deep appreciation for a broader range of music. He's come to understand and appreciate bands and genres that might not have resonated with him in his youth, including rock, pop, blues, jazz, and more. At Herbies House, we celebrate the diverse tastes and passions of all music aficionados, because it takes all kinds of music to make the world go round.
